I want to talk to you today about what happens after you are separated. It can be a difficult time. You may have a broken heart from the failure of your relationship. You’ve got kids to support, yourself to support, and you may need financial assistance from your partner.
Sometimes what people do is they think there’s nothing that can be done when your partner is underestimating for not disclosing all of their income. This happens especially if the person is self-employed, in a corporation or even on their own business or if they have a lot of investments and they’re living off of investment income or other income from properties. I
In these situations, their T4 income - that’s the income they report to the federal government for their annual tax returns - that income may not be a fair representation of what's available for payment for support purposes.
